Godzilla: Monster Planet Movie Trailer Review

Godzilla, the monster, just does not make for a very interesting character. He comes into a city, destroys it or in this case, helps it but all along the plot based around him is very dull and shallow. In a movie like this, special effects can only help so much and then everything else has to connect to make it worthwhile. The characters in this film are dull and forgettable and while there are some big, fun, special effect-filled scenes, they are short and do not make up for the rest of the weak film. It was also weird how Godzilla himself was not even featured in the movie all that much, and these other weird bad monsters were shown much more. This franchise can't really grow from here, it was a nice novelty back in the day but now with today's technology and effects, Godzilla needs a lot more than a big monster destroying a city to make a good, watchable movie.

Unlike its 1998 counterpart, this version of "Godzilla" seems to have taken into account the origin of the creature and strayed away from dreaming up their own tale and treated this version with some real TLC. Besides the fact the creature makes rather few appearances in his own film, it actually works for the film as opposed to against it. It focuses on the human condition and how we band together to survive an attack and the importance of family with an action fueled monster movie as a background. With the talented cast who's performances range from just good to great, it really sells the depth and emotion each character needs to propel the human aspect along.  With that being said, the monster effects look incredible and these are only displayed more beautifully by the direction of Gareth Edwards and his crew. Those paired with the spectacular action sets that will make you shout out in joy as I did, make for one hell of a movie that you won't forget anytime soon. A

Interesting take on the Godzilla storyline. Like many movies today, it tries to present sci-fi in a realistic scenario (or at least as realistic as possible.) While the title is Godzilla, the movie focuses instead on the survival efforts of its main characters, bringing a human element to the film. All in all, it was a pretty average movie with a low ceiling and high floor. I anticipate that now that the production crew have their feet wet, the future installments will be a bit less conservative

Well, I was disappointed with this. By, a lot. So, let's get started. First off, Godzilla is rarely seen. He has about 20 minutes of screentime. Now, you're saying: "Well, Jaws did that.", and yes, I know, but Jaws had interesting characters, and this does not. Aaron Taylor Johnson's character is your typical married character who needs to save his wife and kid. But, first, he needs to save some Asian kid he doesn't know. Yeah..... stupid. Though the Bryan Cranston character was cool.... but he died. (.......) Also, the teasing in this movie is strong here. Twice, a fight is teased. No one likes being teased like that Gareth Edwards. Okay? Don't do anything like that for Rogue One. Anyway, the advertising was awful as well. It advertises a Godzilla movie, with Bryan Cranston as the main character, but we get a Bryan Cranston death and a Mothra movie instead. Godzilla isn't even the main monster in a Godzilla movie?! And, it focuses on those characters no one cares about! But, hey, is the final fight cool? Yes. Okay, I will admit, I was entertained with the final fight. And when Godzilla breathes his fire breath (wait, it's not fire? It's atomic breath? Well, that's stupid. Why can't it be fire? What's wrong with fire?), well atomic breath (again, stupid) into the Mothra or whatever it was, that was really cool. But one good moment doesn't make up for a 2 hr. and 18-minute movie of terribleness. Well, not all of the stuff was bad. The final fight was cool enough and the directing was nice, but it took us to lying to get there and I was bored mostly. A rotten rating of 7%. Though the 3rd act was cool, the entire movie follows characters you don't care about. You just want to see some action.
